Frank Baum imagined a Kansas girl being swept by tornado to a faraway land where she meets a wizard. But Baum needed a title for his tale.
Serendipity struck one afternoon as he was filing paperwork.
“My gaze was caught by the gilt letters on the three drawers of the filing cabinet,” Baum later wrote. “The first was A-G. The next drawer was labeled H-N. And on the last one were the letters O-Z.”
