This morning I woke to find a letter to the editor that my boyfriend Stu had written last night. The local paper had referred to a certain politician as a hero, but Stu disagreed. And Stu ought to know. He is – and always has been – a hero to me. He lives true to himself; he stands up and speaks out for what is right, sometimes at great cost to himself.
I am extraordinarily blessed with heroes in my life, people who live true to themselves; people who choose to live honest, to live real, no easy task in today’s world. People who, amidst the darkness and the fear, the injustice and the pain, stand true shining their light, whatever it may be. These people show us all that no matter what shape this planet is in, no matter what a mess we humans have made, there is still hope, there are still dreams, there is still joy, there is always love.
Who are these heroes? Every single one of you. Every single person who gives a smile, shares a laugh, who listens, who loves. Every single person who lives true.
“...the hope of the world lies not with churchmen, statesmen or politicians, but with the men and women...who have banished pretense from their lives.
One by one they go forth, affecting by their presence the way we think and act. They are the light of the world. Like a city set on a hill, they can not be hid.” ~ Richard Bode, Beachcombing at Miramar
Go forth today, dear heroes. Shine your light, whatever it may be. You matter. You make a difference, just by being you.
You are the hope of the world. Live true.
