I had lunch yesterday with my Wednesday child, Ally. She leaves today for Ashland, Oregon – no job, no place to live – seeking a summer of adventure. Then in the fall she is off to Chicago to work for Second City Improv. Not audition for, not apply for, not try for, but work for.

She reminded me of myself when I was younger – full of dreams and optimism, passion for life and craft and boundless courage.

Stu and I have been talking lately that we feel old. We find ourselves being more hesitant, more fearful and – dare I say the word – conservative. And it doesn’t feel right.

But after my visit with Ally I felt like myself again – full of energy, enthusiasm and dreams.

So, if you are stuck in rut, feeling old, take a twentysomething out to lunch. And let them remind you how to dream.

Have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language. Don’t search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answer. ~ Rainer Maria Rilke

and so begins another ponderings series, this one will be on questions. the source is a wonderful little book i just picked up called ever wonder by kobi yamada.
