I had lunch yesterday with my Wednesday child, Ally. She leaves today for Ashland, Oregon – no job, no place to live – seeking a summer of adventure. Then in the fall she is off to Chicago to work for Second City Improv. Not audition for, not apply for, not try for, but work for.
She reminded me of myself when I was younger – full of dreams and optimism, passion for life and craft and boundless courage.
Stu and I have been talking lately that we feel old. We find ourselves being more hesitant, more fearful and – dare I say the word – conservative. And it doesn’t feel right.
But after my visit with Ally I felt like myself again – full of energy, enthusiasm and dreams.
So, if you are stuck in rut, feeling old, take a twentysomething out to lunch. And let them remind you how to dream.
